I am a Woman

STEPHANIE AISI

This poem is dedicated to my mother and all other women before us
who paved the way for women of this generation to be heard

I am a woman
Clothed with culture
I speak
They can’t hear me

I am a woman
Sewn together by religion
I speak
Why can’t they hear me?

I am a woman
Now a mother
I speak
She hears me

I am a woman
High school to university
I speak
They can hear me

I am a woman
Indebted to women before me
I speak
I am heard
