If I was in a position of power, what I would give to women

AS a Papua New Guinean woman, if I was able to meet the three most important needs for women and girls, what would I do?
Well, I would give them education, business opportunities and create a safe haven for them which I would call ‘The House of Hope’.
I believe education is the key that unlocks the door out of poverty for women and girls as it provides the skills and knowledge for self-reliance and productivity.
I would provide free education for girls starting from pre-school right through to Grade 12 and elevate the cream of the crop even further to achieve the best tertiary education for our potential leaders.
Those girls who didn’t make it would be given the opportunity of vocational training to instill life skills to help them and their families through small business.
I would provide business opportunities so women could earn an income for themselves and their families. This would require basic business workshops and small grants to aspiring traders and businesswomen. I would also pursue programs with the theme, ‘Women Helping Women’ which would encourage women to support each other.
The House of Hope would be a major driving force to implant hope in all women and to enable them to believe in themselves as human beings who have value and a purpose to live and achieve their dreams.
It would to create a house of refuge for females who are homeless, victims of physical and emotional abuse, single mothers or unmarried and pregnant. It will be a place of comfort.
From there, the women would be streamed into education and business to give them the resources and skills to be productive members of society.
My idea is that every woman and girl who walks into the House of Refuge will be registered by name and a photo taken, a form will be signed to say that wherever they find success in life a certain percentage from their salary will be given back to the House so other females can benefit.
A committee will be set in place where our top scholars will give their professional services freely in gratitude.
Every women or girl who has become successful will be a role model for the females who come into our House, their names will be on the walls as motivation to other women. We will seek funding from business houses, the government, the female community and kind hearted people in our country who believe in our vision.
The network of women and girls will be a lifetime commitment to do something that is truly amazing: “a hand is given only when a hand is taken”.
