Lifetime job

EUGENIA DIOU
An entry in the Crocodile Prize
Kina Securities Award for Poetry
Broke my back whole day with the chores
No rest till night
Am relieved coz everything is done and it’s time to go to bed
But then you give me more work and I say
I am tired, I don’t want to
Then you get angry
No compliment about all the things I did today
No understanding at all
Instead you are angry
But tis ok,
I’ll accept it coz I am a mother and it’s my lifetime job
It challenged me this one, of being a son of a woman.
