The importance of education
27 May 2016
An entry in the 2016 Crocodile Prize
A culture of civilization
Introduced for modernization
To undermine traditionalism
Shattered tribalism
With this dynamic notion
It’s not the norms of my forefathers
All in print materials
Label as curriculums
Interpreted by professionals
In front of them
When my forefathers wore grass skirts
Purpur and malos
Rooted with Melanesian ideology
But the modern philosophy
Penetrates like arrows
Strikes like lightings
Engulfs the old ways
As a superior of modernization
If my forefather rejected
I would have not define
What is education?
A life time support for my flesh
A flavour of my desires
A solution to my dreams
What I am incapable of
Education can do me a favour
Education is my life time companion
As a pathway to modernization
And my lifelong foundation
Provides me wealth, prestige & fame
Education the source of money, luxury & needs
Education is the substitute
Of my long gone institute
Since Education is life
A good poetic expression of our fading traditions & cultures due modern education. We can not let our most valued cultural norms & traditions fade away due to modern influence.
We must make every attempt & effort to revive it & pass it onto our young generations especially our good cultural norms, traditions & etc.
Enga Province has written its text book plus its teachers guide & are now being taught in schools in the province now.
Other provinces should follow in order to revive & safeguard some of our good norms, values, traditions & principles of our forefathers.
I am a cultural education officer in Enga
