An Unwavering Me

Lapieh Landu and her mother, SusanLAPIEH LANDU

A contribution to ‘My Walk to Equality’, the first anthology of PNG women’s
writing. It will be published on International Women’s Day, 8 March 2017

I decide for myself
Who I am
And who I choose to be
I will not waver

I decide for myself
What I am
And what I can be
I will not waver

I decide for myself
Where I go
And where I ought to be
I will not waver

I decide for myself
Who I love
And who can love me
I will not waver

I decide for myself
To choose
And not have chosen for me
I will not waver

A rib from which I came
And dust that carefully mould me
As his companion, abode and peer
He decides for himself and so will I.
