You say what you say, I see what I see

You say the law of the jungle is wrong
I see a girl whose vagina was torn
You say it's inhuman taking their balls.
I see five men fucked a girl like a doll
You say vigilantism is not right
I see how at first she had tried to fight
You say this is evil and terrible
I see her legs, semen and blood dribble
You say taking balls will not stop the rape
I see that two of the five have escaped
You say that good does not come from bad
I see that those men may one day be dads
You say we must be civil and Christian
I see men will not stop raping children.
Hi John, that sounds like a good idea.
Vigilantism is not the same as 'payback' killing, although they both appear to sport revenge.
I'm not sure if we could call the immediate community reaction and attack on the rapists in this particular incident as 'payback'.
People caught them in the act and applied swift and brutal punishment - jungle justice no doubt and to modern or sensitive folks unacceptable.
If it had been my niece, daughter or sister...and it's no comfort to know it was not.

I am beginning to share Michael's poem widely among my friends and hope that it will engender discussions on the issues of pay back and justice in general in PNG.

Tough one, vengeance. Payback is almost in our DNA, at least we can see it being dished out on the streets and in the villages.
I am struggling with some element of that myself...should I be a saint, or become a civilzed and law abiding citizen?

Damn! Sharp shooter. Wish I could say it like that Michael...

"Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are." Benjamin Franklin
"Vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord."
"Revenge is a meal best served cold."
If wisdom begins when innocence has been annihilated then children must witness hell so that we may remain righteous.
