The number nine has always been a bit awkward, it's not quite a ten. It's a kind of waiting number that we have to get through before we reach the more concrete decade.

I suspect that 2019 might be like that. Big things will happen in 2020 but we have to get through 2019 first.

Which leads me to an interesting essay by Stan Grant. Check it out. He describes a few chilling possibilities linked to our inability to learn from history:
