PORT MORESBY - PNG’s Green Climate Fund (GCF) program was launched here last week to coordinate a wide range of international and domestic stakeholders in designing and executing activities to address climate change in the country.
The PNG based stakeholders include government agencies, provincial institutions, civil society, faith-based organizations, NGOs and the private sector.
GCF was established to assist developing countries fund activities to address climate change and the PNG program includes mitigation and adaption investments, readiness actions and a timeline for implementation.
GCF is a global platform to respond to climate change by investing in low emission and climate-resilient development.
It was established by 194 governments to limit or reduce greenhouse gas emissions in developing countries and to help vulnerable societies adapt to the unavoidable impacts of climate change.
PNG has missed out on GCF funds previously but is now the recipient of K7.2 million to support activities throughout the country.
Interested individuals or public and private sector organisations can apply for GCF funds.
