Phil Fitzpatrick - "This is not a book about a disabled writer. It is a book about a towering figure in the history of Simbu and Papua New Guinea itself"

NOOSA – After a remarkably short production time, the Francis Nii collection, ‘Man Bilong Buk’, has been readied for printing and we’re pleased to make an e-book available for free download immediately.

The link to the e-book can be found above this page’s masthead by clicking through the headline ‘The Francis Nii Collection’.

We thank all those people who donated funds and made the publication of this important work possible.

MBB coverIf you are a donor and would like a free hard copy of ‘Man Bilong Buk’, you should email your postal address to me here.

For other people who would like a hard copy, they will be available from Amazon at its list price of US$ 39.45.

Jordan Dean of JDT Publications in Port Moresby is to be commended for the speedy release of this book.

Since Francis’s death, Jordan is the only local low-cost publisher remaining in Papua New Guinea.

The contents of ‘Man Bilong Buk’ includes a great selection of Francis’s journalism and poetry, tributes from fellow writers, the story of his final weeks, a timeline of his life and work, a complete bibliography of the books he authored and published, and much more, including colour photographs.

The book puts on permanent display Francis’s intelligence, wisdom and creative energy and will ensure that his talents and understandings will not be lost even though the man himself is not with us.

It will also ensure that he has left behind a legacy not just a reputation.

As Phil Fitzpatrick observes in his Preface to the book, “He was a great man in true Papua New Guinean style and that is the way he must be remembered. This is not a book about a disabled writer. It is a book about a towering figure in the history of Simbu and Papua New Guinea itself.”

A great gesture for a great man in PNG Literature, so much gratitude to those hearts behind the scene.

Seems to be a bit cheaper through the Amazon Australia website - AU$60.32 plus $3.90 postage. Don't know whether that includes GST.

Still shipped from the USA so delivery times are about the same.

eBook not up there yet.

Philip Fitzpatrick

I've just ordered the paperback. Costs AU$71.12 to get to Australia.
