NOOSA - This week I received three consignments of Phil Fitzpatrick and my book, Man Bilong Buk, a 320 page tome about the late Francis Nii, containing many of his essays and poems and much more.

The consignments came to me instead of going to Papua New Guinea because Amazon has stopped distributing to PNG. Now my problem is to get them to a long list of readers I’ve developed.

I say problem because just to mail one of these beauties to PNG costs $35 (K90). Australia Post has gone mad with power since the Covid-19 mêlée struck.

I note that a smaller consignment of six books I got from the USA today cost me just $5 a book postage.

Long story short, there are no funds left in the kitty and I’m not up for a couple of thousand bucks to send 60 or 70 books to PNG.

Anyway I stumped up another $350 to send off the first 10 to PNG and I’m now in the market for more donations.

Short of achieving that, I’m working on various ways of freighting a large consignment of books to Moresby where one of our good friends may act as a distribution point so eventually all the books will get to their destinations.

Anyone with spare cash or workable schemes to get these books to PNG without costing an arm and a leg can contact me here or leave a comment below.
