Finance guru appointed to board of BCL

PORT MORESBY - Bougainville Copper Limited has confirmed the appointment of Maryanne Hasola to the company’s board as an independent non-executive director.
Ms Hasola, from Bana District in Bougainville, is a well-regarded women’s leader who brings to the role more than 23 years’ experience in accounting and auditing in the Internal Revenue Commission of Papua New Guinea.
She has served in various senior positions including company assessor, tax audit manager and policy and advice director and has a keen interest in Bougainville’s economic development and mining policy.
Ms Hasola holds a Master of Commerce and Taxation degree from Curtin University of Technology, and a Bachelor of Business Studies degree from PNG’s Divine Word University.
Ms Hasola has family links with landowners in the lower tailings area of the Panguna mine.
Drawing on her professional experience, she has assisted and advised the Lower Tailings Association which represents the interests of landowners as well as the Association’s business arm, Lower Tailings Company Ltd.
BCL chairman Sir Mel Togolo said Ms Hasola brings extensive local knowledge to the board and also strong professional experience and analytical abilities in financial matters.
“The company is delighted to welcome Maryanne to the board,” Sir Mel said.
“Given her professional expertise combined with genuine knowledge of issues relevant to Bougainville mining communities and her network of local connections, we‘re certain she will make an important contribution,” he said.
