BUKA - Bishop Dariusz Kaluza MSF (the Catholic Missionaries of the Holy Family), who is based in Bougainville, conveyed the sad news of the death of Fr Casimir Niezgoda SVD in Kundiawa Hospital on Sunday afternoon.
“On Good Shepherd Sunday, God called his good shepherd from Papua New Guinea to eternal rest,” Bishop Kaluza said.
Fr Niezgoda, aged 90, was born in the same village and parish in Poland as the Bishop.
He was ordained into the priesthood in 1960 and celebrated his 60 years of service at Par Parish in the Wabag Diocese in 2020.
Fr Niezgoda arrived in what is now Enga Province in 1968 and spent 56 years as a missionary priest in PNG, including working in Bougainville for a short time during the crisis of the 1990s.
“Fr Niezgoda was a great man, a great missionary and a great shepherd,” Bishop Kaluza said. “May his soul rest in peace.”
Fr Casimir Niezgoda worked mainly in Enga but over the years he worked in various places, including Kandep, Marimuni, Yampu and Par.
He always had a smile on his face and was always good humoured. He brought a positive air to meetings.
He was indeed a good man. May Casi rest in peace.
